🌱 Learning Something New: How I Built This Blog with Zero Experience
When I decided to share my story through The Race of Your Life, I knew I wanted a space where readers could connect with me beyond the pages of my book. A blog felt like the right step—but here’s the truth: I had no idea how to build one.
Technology has never been my strong suit. The thought of creating a website felt overwhelming, like trying to speak a language I didn’t know. But there was something in me that said, You can do this. One step at a time.
So, I took a deep breath (literally and figuratively) and started.
🌟 Stepping Into the Unknown
I began with zero experience but a willingness to learn. I reminded myself that everything I’ve ever accomplished—teaching, writing, advocating—started with simply trying.
I chose WordPress.com because it seemed beginner-friendly. At first, I didn’t understand half the terms—theme, domain, static page? It all sounded foreign. But instead of giving up, I took it one click at a time.
I Googled things. I watched short tutorials. I played around with settings, made mistakes, and fixed them. And slowly, what felt impossible began to feel… doable.
💻 What I’ve Learned So Far
- Progress matters more than perfection. My blog isn’t flawless, but it’s functional. And that’s enough for now.
- Technology is more forgiving than we think. Most things can be undone or changed later.
- Asking for help is a strength. I leaned on resources, tools, and even asked ChatGPT (yes, my secret helper!) to guide me step by step.
- A growth mindset changes everything. Instead of saying “I can’t,” I asked, “How can I?”
🌱 Why This Matters Beyond a Blog
For me, this isn’t just about learning WordPress. It’s about proving to myself that even in seasons of illness and limitation, I can still grow, create, and try new things.
Life with chronic illness sometimes makes you feel like everything is out of your control. But this reminded me—I still have the power to learn, to adapt, and to show up in new ways.
🤝 An Invitation to You
If you’re reading this and thinking, I could never do that—I want you to know, you can. Whether it’s building a blog, starting a new hobby, or simply stepping out of your comfort zone, all it takes is a willingness to begin.
I’m still learning as I go. This blog will evolve. I’ll keep making mistakes and figuring things out. But I’m proud of this little space on the internet because it represents more than a website. It represents courage, curiosity, and growth.
Thanks for being here as I learn out loud. In my next post, I’ll share some of the lessons I’ve learned about writing my memoir while navigating illness and faith.
With grace for the journey,
Stacy
